Shibao
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located near Uzumasa-Koryuji Station and Toei Kyoto Studio Park, Shibao serves comforting everyday fare, from toast breakfast sets starting at 7:00 to homemade daily lunches, hamburger steak bento, and katsu curry.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Opening its doors at 7:00, Shibao in Uzumasa is an easy stop for a bite before a neighborhood stroll or the start of a workday. Close to Keifuku Electric Railroad's Uzumasa-Koryuji Station and Toei Kyoto Studio Park, this kissaten (traditional Japanese cafe) serves morning sets featuring toast alongside freshly brewed coffee. Crisp, golden-brown toast and a warm cup make for a quiet way to begin the 1 day.
Come midday, the menu turns to hearty set meals and bento boxes. The daily lunch special brings together an assortment of handmade touches—such as tender eggplant dengaku glazed with miso, lightly fried tempura, and rustic simmered vegetables—all seasoned gently with restrained salt. For familiar homestyle yoshoku (Japanese-style Western comfort food), the kitchen turns out dependable choices like a soft, fluffy hamburger steak bento, carefully tenderized and fried tonkatsu bento, and spiced katsu curry.
Sunlight filters through the front glass into the bright room, where the welcoming matriarchs maintain a warm, down-to-earth atmosphere. You might even spot the cafe's resident dog, adding to the unhurried, easygoing setting. Following a meal with sweet azuki red beans and a cup of tea makes for a thoroughly relaxing way to spend the early afternoon.
